Nutrition and fitness of players?
As we look at athletes today we see that they are stronger and faster. How much conditioning and proper nutrition goes into development of a player? You hear all sort of things happening form parents taking kids to physical training to putting them an a right nutrition plan from young age. Is that really necessary? How do we get player physically fit? In my opinion the secret of becoming a great tennis player lies on the tennis court not in a meal plan or some gym. If a player is not physically fit he or she is probably not training hard on the tennis court, especially when we talk about junior tennis. Remember when you were a kid did you ever get tired when playing a game? Having sound technique will make players fitter and stronger because they will be able to keep more balls in play. How is gym going to help you keep the ball in play? You might get faster and stronger but your technique will be that same. You will get to the ball faster and then you will have more time to make unforced error. I am not against players going to the gym, but many times parents look away from the core of the problem why kids lose tennis matches. When it come to nutrition Nadal’s uncle said it the best “ player are good because they good player not because they eat better”.
