How to schedule practice
When scheduling kids practice parents should always ask them selves one question. What kind of program can I put my player on to constantly keep improving? Putting kids in academy-based systems in my opinion is not very thoughtful on parent’s parts. First you can’t structure the program according to what your player needs. For example in the academy certain days they might work on shot ball and volley, but your kid just lost the match because he could not make a backhand. Second placing players in the tennis academy is not very economical. The financial cost on parents can be very stressful. These places are not cheap to enroll in. Over the years I have come up with the simple formula that is most beneficial for players as well as most economical for parents. First part of the formula is to get players very technical lessons. Players need to develop great fundamentals if they want to be competitive. Finding a right coach for your player is crucial. In short find a coach whose main objective is to develop right looking swings. After you start your player with technical lessons second phase is to get your player playing a lot of tennis matches. Players should play on average between 8 to 10 sets a weak. Practice matches should include players who are worst, better and about the same level as your player. This is the best way to get used to playing under different sorts of pressures. Get to a point that you are willing to play anybody anywhere. How do you find players to pay against? Next time you go to a tournament get the number of a player just beat up on your kid or the player the your kid beat up on. Think about it in a way that you want to use other players to become better tennis player. If you want to get better in a hurry play player who you dislike the most everyday. Playing a lot of matches will show you where you make the most unforced errors. When you go and get your technical lesson tell your coach where you made most unforced errors and that is the side that needs to be addressed that lesson. Work on your weaknesses. If you don’t they will show up at the most important time during your match play. If your financial situation allows you a perfect schedule for players is: get a technical lesson every day and then go and play best out of three sets.
